Prof. Godfrey Tangwa
Godfrey B. Tangwa, professor of philosophy and former Head of the Department of Philosophy, has recently retired from full time teaching at the University of Yaounde 1, Cameroon. Born in Shisong in the Northwest Region of Cameroon, he attended Sasse College in Buea and the Universities of: Nigeria in Nsukka, Ife in Ile-Ife, and Ibadan
in Ibadan. He lectured at the University of Ife from 1978-1986 and joined the University of Yaounde in 1987. He has extensive teaching and research experience in the domains of African philosophy and bioethics. He is a member of the International Association of Bioethics (IAB); was on its Board of Directors from 1997 to 2003 and served as Vice-President of the association between 1999 and 2001. He is currently the Chairperson of the Cameroon Bioethics Initiative
(CAMBIN) which he founded in 2005. He was elected fellow of the Cameroon Academy of Sciences in 2007. He has over seventy academic publications to his credit, including nine books, twenty five book chapters and over forty five peer-reviewed articles in international academic journals.
